Last week Ashley and I needed a quick break away from our bossy little two year old so we decided to try a new restaurant. We had read about Pizzeria 712 in a magazine last year and had been wanting to try it for some time. It’s a little hard to notice and we even thought it had gone out of business. It’s in that half-built eyesore apartment building just south of Center St in Orem. I’m sure you’ve seen the thing…
Anyhow after a short wait we were seated in a very small but modern dining room. The food was great, we each tried different starters and for entrees they only offer pizzas. The selection was fairly limited but the food was great.
I borrowed these pics from their website. I’m sure they won’t mind since I’m giving them a good review.
For dessert we headed up State Street about a block to The Chocolate (dessert cafe).
It’s a bakery in an old renovated home serving cakes, cookies, pie, you name it they’ve got it, kind of stuff. The place was packed so we got our cake to go. I highly recommend this place for sugar-addicts like myself. But eat it quick, my lemon curd cupcake was stale by the next day.

Last Monday for FHE we were invited to the local Lone Peak HS production of Peter Pan! Our neighbor was in the play and her parents needed to liquidate a few overstocked tickets. So we were happy to oblige them and the whole fam-damily packed up and went to the play. Leave it to Lone Peak “A World Class High School” (Just ask them yourselves, they’ve written it on the side of the building) to put on a world class production of J M Barrie’s classic children’s tale. The play was great, complete with girl-playing-boy in some sort of creepy confusing awkward Peter/Wendy romance. But why mess with a classic, right? Kate and I were completely amazed with the flying effects, so much so, that Kate is quite convinced she should be able to really fly now. Overall, the talent was really great for high school kids and bravo to anyone that can keep a 2 year old captivated through the second act of anything!

Ashley already posted about our nice visit to the folks over at Maternal Fetal Medicine (Perinatology) at AF Hospital. Here’s a scanned image of our little bean just for posterity…

This whole “Winter in May” weather scenario has been making me kind of restless and I really wanted to go to St George for the weekend. We priced it out and there was obviously something going on down there because rooms were booked solid! While at work on Friday I decided to see if I could get any last minute deals closer by. I contacted the Zermatt in Midway and they hooked us up with a package deal that include a dining credit for pretty cheap and they upgraded our room for free.
When we checked in they gave us a coupon for buy one get one free spa treatments and 20% off dinner. So we took them up on both offers and had a great weekend complete with relaxation time and the seafood buffet at Schneitter’s. If you haven’t made the drive up the canyon to try this seafood buffet I highly recommend it. The dessert bar alone is reason to go. Actually the dessert bar is the best part.
Kate’s one true love is staying at ‘heltels’; she was in heaven just being there. She loved riding the carousel, they started it up just for her.
The next morning, breakfast was included in the package, and after letting the food digest a bit, we hit the swimming pool. After check-out, Grandma Sherrie and Grandpa Lyle called us and wanted to meet at the zoo. On the way down the canyon the snowy weather change our minds so we settled for meeting up at the Living Planet Aquarium to see the new penguin exhibit. Yikes! Avoid that place for a few months, the crowds were pretty crazy, I’m sure they were violating the fire code.
So that’s pretty much it! When you start noticing I’m packing on the sympathy pounds, you’ll know why.
It looks like you had a great time! The reason why St. George was so crowded was because of the Iron Man competition. I'm amazed that people can survive something that intense.
ReplyDeleteWe were in St. George for the Ironman! My bro-in-law competed in it! CRAZY! but so cool!
ReplyDeleteThe food sounded great - too bad I never make it to Orem!
ReplyDeleteI'm jealous of your relaxing time at the Zermatt. Our recent Homestead weekend was not nearly as luxe.
I've got a lot to say. First of all, I went to the Pizzaria 712 awhile back and it was good. Shelley's friend's brother is the chef there, so we had to go. The menu is constantly changing; that's why there isn't much selection at any given time.
ReplyDeleteWe too went to the Aquarium on Saturday and yeah, YIKES! We were baffled by the six foot tall adults who felt they needed to be 2 inches from the glass making it impossible for any kids to see. We also saw about 5 plumber's cracks there making the day complete.
Glad you had fun at the Zermatt. I too need a little break from the "Second Winter" weather we're having. I keep a running total of Utah vs. Virginia stats in my head and alls I have to say is, "One point awarded to Virginia's weather!"
Looks like you guys had a blast!! You little picture of your "bean" is super cute!! I am really excited for your guys!
