Baby Deets

A lot of you wanted the deets about this baby, so to start....we're so happy! I was initially reluctant to do this all over again, but after not getting pregnant for so long...I am ready and can't believe it actually happened. Dave and I both feel so lucky to get one more little person and wish Baby was already here.

Because these things take time, here's what's happened so far...

Baby was initially given the due date of Halloween. Perfect, huh? After a few appointments, however, Baby is measuring a little small. The doc.'s have bumped the date to November 8th. Grr... The good news is that we do C-sections, so baby will probably come about a week or so before then.

At my initial appointment, we couldn't find a heartbeat. Dave didn't make it to that appointment and I was doing my best to keep in my tears. They pulled out the ultrasound, and found that Baby was doing just fine in there. Eesh! In spite of the scare, it was definitely fun getting an early peek and pictures of Baby.***Dave will now be at the rest of my appointments.

Dave has given Baby the name, Orlando (for undisclosed reasons).

Kate, too, has given Baby a lovely name--Ferb. From the get-go, she has insisted that Baby is a boy. Nervous that she may be sorely disappointed, we told her that if it's a girl, she can share a room with the baby (just like Subby and Baby Lucy). Now Baby is definitely a girl! Isn't it amazing how Baby's gender can just change like that?

Kate's also already taking on the role of Big Sister: covering my belly with her blanket (saying it's for baby), singing "Happy Birthday" to the baby, sharing food with me so she can, in turn, share with the baby, etc. It's been so fun watching her.

We had our first appointment with the specialist, Dr. Schimmer, yesterday. He worked with us when I was pregnant with Kate, and we're so glad to get him again. Our appointment was very promising. He was very reassuring that all will go well. We're praying all the time for everything to go as smooth as last time. Our next appointment with him is on my birthday when we we will be well into the 2nd Trimester.

And last, I haven't been sick at all with this pregnancy...not even tired. I have noticed, however, an increased appetite already (and an additional 5 L.B.'s)! Sigh. I guess I'm willing to gain some weight if it means we get one more baby.

  1. Congrats again! Did you know my birthday is Nov 8? So I'm voting for that date.

Oo, that would be so scary if they couldn't find a heartbeat! I'm glad Dave isn't going to be an absentee father anymore.

I think Ferb is an awesome name. A new favorite of mine.

  2. Ahhem, let me just add that I wasn't really invited to the first appointment, I wanted to go but wasn't consulted...

  3. I knew nothing of your struggles with conception/pregnancy with Kate, but it sounds like it wasn't easy. Maybe we were both going through it at the same time and didn't know it. It sounds like this pregnancy is quite the little miracle, so I'm really hopeful all continues to go well with no more scares. Miscarriages suck, so good luck!

  4. I'm so glad everything went well at your appointment. Kate is so cute. She's going to be an amazing big sister. I'm voting that you're having a boy.

  6. I'm really hoping for a girl actually just because we should match genders exactly, just like our sisters. Also, Dave shouldn't feel badly; Paul wasn't at any of Lucy's appointments, but then again, neither was I...don't judge...many pregnant women (in Africa) never have prenatal care and they are fine!

  7. 5 lbs. is nothing. I gained a whopping 11 in the first trimester, with an ultimate 45 pound gain. Yeah, I was a fatty fatso! I'm excited for y'all, and like Lindsay, I think it's another girl. I don't know why...I just do.
