Run, Run as Fast as You Can!

The Gingerbread Man has been a hit for the last couple of weeks. Cole loves retelling each part of the story, and most especially enjoys shouting, “Snip, SNAP!” (which is, of course, the sound of the fox eating the cookie). Dave took the excitement to an all new level by adding an enrichment activity: baking gingerbread cookies! It was quite darling actually.

Minutes before bedtime, Dad and Sissy hit the store for a little molasses and such.  Then they came home and mixed, rolled, shaped, and baked.

The kids got to eat their cookies and listen to the story together in their jam-jams. I couldn’t help but think how incredibly sweet our little family can be!

The Utah State Fair

I don’t love it. Free tickets still doesn’t make it worth it. Plus, the pigs REALLY stink. The Utah State Fair; something that always SEEMS super fun, but...well, isn't. This cow, however, dang cool...who knew farm animals grew to be so HUGE?! @daveblackhurst
But…you know what is fun? A lupper at the Lion House Pantry with my little family afterwards. And even better than that? A tour of the Beehive House in which a nonmember couple asks, “How many children did Brigham Young have?”

The Response? 56…
…that, and four largely raised eyebrows from the couple who knew nothing poignant of Brigham Young up until this moment. Classic.

Because a good thing should not be forgotten…

Can’t get tired of this pic! Cleaned out the hairbrush; repurposed the hair in a big way!

Trash to TREASURE!

First Trip to the Dadtist

I worried about this day. He is one particular kid. And no one, except our firstborn, loves dental appointments.

I was wrong. He loved it. He loves his, new “shiny teeth.” And he most especially loves his treat bag, which he tightly gripped and carried around with him all day yesterday. It's fun having Dad as your dentist!

Date Night

We had all planned to go to Chalk the Walk. But at the last minute, Coley puked.  We changed plans, and Dad took Kate out for dinner and art, while I stayed at home with the Bear.

Meanwhile, Coley decided he’d had enough downtime (he must have sensed there was fun being had without him). After several “I need to go in the car, Mom!” petitions, he and I finally loaded up. As we were leaving our neighborhood, I asked, “Well, where do you want to go? Without hesitation he responded, “Mmm…Paris, France.”

We didn’t make it there, though I would have been more than happy to oblige. Instead, we hit up a Frozen Yogurt joint. Second best thing to Paris, right? No. That's a big, fat lie. Still, fun to sit, eat, and admire my cute little date!

Mother/Brother Date:
It was a nice night for all of us. Dave and I both agreed that handling one child for the night was a good break for both of us;)

First Grade Woes

Oh, summer. How I hated thee! You were three whole months of constant yelling and screaming between two little children. And you know what? I miss you.

1st grade is VERY long; something I didn't anticipate. Sissy is gone all day, and I miss her! And you know who really, REALLY misses her? Brother. He waits all day for her to get home. And all day it's, "Can we go pick up, Kate, Mom?" over and over and over.
Finally, when Kate walks through the front door, Coley hugs and kisses his big sister. It's the best, except when Kate gets home AND THEN LEAVES to play at a friend's house. Such sadness! Poor little bear!

Coley and I have good days. We try to hit the town, and he likes going ANYWHERE in the car even if it's to the store. Most days are filled with errands, playing with cars, shooting cy-bugs, and dinoseum visits, but I do feel bad for the little guy. It’s been an adjustment not having a built-in play buddy around.

Plus, our long days sometimes lead to boredom and curiosity….like wondering what would happen if we shoved a bead way up high in our noses. This did, in fact, happen. Luckily, my first surgery ended well.

Just a little note to self: Enjoy your time with your little people. It doesn't last long!

Soon my little Buster, too, will be headed off to grade school. Hopefully we can keep him entertained until then;)

Curler Girl

This girl REQUESTED sponge curlers. Yep, she's definitely related to her Grandma Sherrie! Why else would one endure the pain of sleeping (or not sleeping) on curlers for a whole night?

…or maybe there’s one hot first grader she’s looking to impress; after all, who doesn’t LOVE super tight ringlets?

Good thing she had a partner to endure the pain with her;)
